Default IRA overpayment for Tax Year 2004

When making a spousal IRA contribution in March 2005, I
mistakingly pressed the submit button twice. As a result, I
over paid it by 3K. Immediately I tried to stop the
transaction from being processed, but both the investment
firm and the bank said that I could not. I waited for a 3
days and as soon as transaction posted (1st week of March
2005), I removed the excess contribution.

A few days ago I revcd IRA tax from from the investment firm
saying that I removed the excess 3K, but the year on the
from is 2005! Should it not be 2004?

I contacted the investment firm and they said that I do not
need to do anything with this document. I only need to keep
it in case IRS asks any questions. Are they correct?

Thanks,

PS: I tried searching for a similar situation in the news
group and could not find it. Hence the post.
