Well, belay that <G> . It WILL help the OP if the amount is
still outstanding as of July 1.

Actually, the 20-year statute of limitations on collections
did pass in 2005. Cal. Rev & Tax Code Sec. 19255, added by
AB 911, Ch. 398, Stats. 2005. It applies to amounts that
are outstanding as of July 1, 2006. So it won't help the OP.

Given what I have seen over the past 18 years, I would say
it will show up for 10 years. Additionally, the state COULD
refile the lien after that as there is NO statute of
limitations for the collection of California state tax
liabilities. A 20-year statute was proposed a couple of
years ago, but it went nowhere. In reality, the state
doesn't collect much after ten years and doesn't attempt to
do so in most cases. There are other questions concering how
far California's reach extends beyond the borders of the
state, but that is for legal minds far brighter than mine.

I don't know a whole lot about how the credit reporting
system works, but I doubt that a tax lien would drop off
unless it had been released. You get it released by paying
the amount due or, if it is erroneous, getting the FTB to
understand that and release the lien.

Default California State Tax Lien

Without going into the details,

I was wondering if a California State Tax Lien
drops off your credit report after 6-7 years?

I currently live in Nevada.

thanks
