If your wife is on a fellowship, does this mean she is a
student? If so, you enter $250 a month as her earned income
($3000 for the year - what a coincidence!). See the
instructions for the IT-216.

Default IT-216 - NYS child dependent care credit

i am filing 'married filing jointly' with 1 child as a
dependent for whom we had $6500 in daycare expenses. it
seems like we could use $3000 times a factor to determine
our credit. However, my wife is on a government fellowship,
which means, that her income is not taxable. Now, if I were
to put down $0 as my wife's earned income in the IT-216,
that would result in $0 child credit!!!

any suggestions on what is the right way to do this?
