If true, that'd be like, news to everybody here.

Maybe you read it wrong? Or maybe you remember it wrong.

Never heard of it before, and you'd have to take the author
and/or publisher to task for their source.

I thought I remembered a Tax Court case on this. It's never
been allowed as a deduction, AFAIK. See _Haverhill Shoe
Novelty Co._, 15 TC 517 (1950) -- corporation denied
deductions for expenses of majority stockholder's daughter's
wedding reception because not ordinary and necessary
business expenses; also _William L. McReavy_, TC Memo
1989-172 -- no business expense deduction for expense of
daughter's wedding reception although many guests were
customers of taxpayer's insurance business.

Burn the book -- and the author, if you can find him/her.

I won't be. I think he would look good in an 8x12 cell with

There is No deduction of that type.

There is a possibility of a deduction IF you invite business
contacts and clients/customrs to a wedding. One caveat
however, this is one of the RED FLAGS that may mark a return
for audit.

There isn't any more information because it's a lie! The
author(s) should be flogged.

Sorry, I'm tired and couldn't be any nicer in my writing.

Sounds like some creative tax dodge. The father of the bride
invites business asociates whom the bride and groom really
don't know. He then has a business write off for the
prorated portion of business vs real guests?

There is no 'standard' way of taking a tax deduction for
expenses surrounding a wedding. Any suggestion to do so
sounds like a scam to me.

Most of us have heard of this - from our clients. And said
"NO, NO". A thousand times no. Also no to parties for your 5
year old to which some clients and thier kids came. Also no
to trips to visit grandparents on their anniversary (you
manage their rental and did 5 minutes of discussion while
there).

Why?

Because the minuet an IRS auditor discovers the
relationship, the deduction is OUT and there may be
penalties.

That's because either you misunderstood what the book said
or the book was just making stuff up. There's no such thing.

See if you can return the book for a refund.

Default Tax Deduction for Marriage Reception?

I read in the marriage book "Here Comes the Guide" that
there is a federal tax deduction on the cost of your
marriage reception location in excess of $3,500. But the
book gave no specifics. Has anyone heard of this before and
know where I can get more information?

Thanks!
