Not unless there is a legitimate business purpose.

Ah, if you file jointly, and you are able to itemize
deductions, you both can claim the property tax and mortgage
interest.

If you file separately, you can only deduct the mortgage
interest and property taxes if you were liable for both (ie:
your name on the mortgage and property title).

no. Your "tax home" is where your job is.

No. Gifts are not income tax deductible.

Default Travel Expenses deduction.

My wife has a home in Illinois. In Feb 05, I accepted a Job
in Texas and rented an apartment here while my wife
continued with her studies in illinois. I was sent to
Britain form Sept-Nov 05, then came back to Texas and was
paid in Texas for all this while (Feb-Dec 05).

questions:

1. I travel to Illinois frequently. Is this expense Tax
Deductible?
2. I paid for my wife's travel to UK while I was there.
Is this expense Tax Deductible (Gift)?
3. I helped my wife with paying her mortgage and property
tax. Is this expense Tax Deductible (Gift)?

Please advise me with this complex situation.

Regards
