I think he's asking about exemptions on a 1040NR.
(Too long to remember the details in my case, but I do
remember that I couldn't claim the kid on a 1040NR)

Default Tax Credit - Married and no 2nd income

I recently got married (Dec 2005 ) abroad. I am a
non-resident alien on a work visa. Can I claim a tax credit
and file a tax return jointly if my wife is not in the US ?

Further, she was in the US last year on a tourist visa but
does NOT have an SSN or any other US tax identification.
She has not worked in the US.

Thanks for you time and patience
Regards
Ram
