| Every year, when I sit down and do our taxes, my wife's W-2 changes our refund to a large deficit (we owe Uncle Sam). Thoughts? --- pharoah Andy writes: Tell your wife to quit her job. That way there won't be any w-2 OR, you can increase her tax witholding to the point where you will break even when you do your taxes. You can increase the witholding to any level you want, up to her entire paycheck. Most people choose the second option, tho I think your wife might prefer the first (grin). | May be you are both taking double exemptions in tax witholding (like, you treat your wife and children as your dependents and she treats you and children as dependents). << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

You can figure out ahead of time at least vaguely how this is going to come out, barring large changes in income, and have your withholding changed. I do that every year and so far have gotten close enough each time that we didn't get assessed a penalty by the IRS. - I have no intentions on getting refunds, but I'd like to not owe a lot so that we don't have to pay penalites and interst either. - Maren, in HI, dealing with a similar situation (without a California teacher) << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
