UP through last year we filed with IRS via a dial up modem and returns went to designated service centers, depending on the state. The state return is still a variable, however IRS changed processing centers for certain states, thus I file half of mine with Austin TX and the other half with Philadelphia. This is just found out today. BUT... the most important change, is that IRS discarded the dial up modem setup and all returns have to filed via internet connection. Also IRS is admitting problems do exist and should be fixed by February. Not sure what the nature of all the problems is however. Stay tuned. It is nationwide and affects ALL E-filers. One of the forms not being accepted is the 8863. Any electronically filed return with a Form 8863 from anywhere in the country through any E-file provider in any state will be rejected. The IRS probably won't have the problem fixed until Feb. 1st or so. | It's an IRS problem. There was late (12/21/05) tax law change that affected Katerina related items. Educational credits was one. It doubles the Hope and Lifetime learning credits. IRS has said maybe 2/1 and or 3/1 for some of the forms. (There are several involved - Inj. Spouse, 8606, 3800, 8271, and some others.) << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

There are some forms that the IRS is not accepting electronically at the present time. Among them are Forms 2210, 8606, and 8863 and a fairly long list of others that are less frequently used. If you file using one of the affected forms your return will be rejected. This issue should be resolved by the end of the month. You should have been given better information by H&R Block. | I would just like to let as many people as possible know about this. If you use taxcut software there is a delay in the e-filing process. Here is the e-mail I received: Due to early season delays in the processing of tax returns, your return has not been processed by the IRS or state tax authority. We are working with the tax authorities to finalize our systems and will begin processing as soon as possible. This delay affects all TaxCut returns being processed in your State. We apologize for this inconvenience. You will receive email notification when your return has been processed by the IRS and/or the state taxing authority. If you have questions about e-filing or need to contact us, please visit our Customer Support Center at: http://www.taxcut.com/customer_support/ Thank you for choosing TaxCut. So far I have been waiting 9 days for my e-file to be processed. H.R. Block is keeping this problem under wraps because they still wish to sell their software this season. In fact, most of their own employees don't know a thing about it. (or at least they pretend they don't when they call). When I finally reached someone who knew of this problem, after an hour on the phone, she said, "Perhaps you should file on paper...Oh, but you already submitted an e-file...you can't. You'll just have to wait...indefinitely" I have used Taxcut for 6 years, but I will never again use it. P.S. A few calls to HR. Block offices in my area discovered that they also are unable to process e-files at the moment. I suggest that anyone counting on this service find another tax preparer. -- "The human adventure is just beginning" << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
