In that case the > "value" of the time it takes me to do all this by myself > would far exceed the cost of a payroll service. doing it right from the beginning. You sir, are an accountant's dream. When you started your business you got professional help and education right at the beginning, you learned how to do it right and you control your costs by doing the repetitive and mundane work yourself. You use a professional to do what professionals do best - plan, educate and guide (and prepare tax returns). You also recognize the value of using a professional and understand that there comes a time when, even though it costs money, it is cheaper to use a professional service than to try to do everything yourself. Whomever your current accountant is, he or she should be grateful for a client like you. Gene E. When I started the business I met with an accountant and had him teach me the basics. In the first year he did a lot of hand holding. I file my own quarterly US and NY returns and annual FUTA return by paper. I pay Federal withholding taxes online through the EFTPS system for free. See www.eftps.com I file my own Forms W-2 and W-3 on line at www.ssa.gov/employer. You must register for both. NY taxes have to be paid by check. My accountant prepares my Federal and NY corporate tax returns. There is a fair amount of detail. The decision to do this yourself or hire a service depends upon how comfortable your friend is with detail and math and how busy she is. For example, I work only part time. If my clients kept me busy full time then I would hire a service. In that case the "value" of the time it takes me to do all this by myself would far exceed the cost of a payroll service. -- Vic Roberts Replace xxx with vdr in e-mail address. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
