Your problem may not be related to the form. I have used
taxcut for 6 years. This year the e-filing system is broken,
at least in my state. My e-file has been processing for
over a week now. Repeated e-mails to taxcut say that I
don't know how to use the program. I finally got an
automated e-mail that says there is a delay...they don't
know how long. I called and it took an hour to find someone
who even knew about the delay. It was suggested that I file
on paper..."Oh, but you already submitted an e-file...you
can't. You'll just have to wait...indefinitely"

I have since found out that this problem also affects H.R.
Block offices in my area. But if your credit is good, they
will be happy to offer a refund anticipation loan...at a
price.

There are several forms IRS isn't allowing e-file on until
2/1 and in some cases 3/1. Many have to do because of
Katrina related law changes signed on 12/21/2005 and include
8606, 8363 (education credits), 3800 plus others. Check IRS
alerts for the entire list.

I don't know anything about the e-file problem. As you
note, the 8606 is a valid e-file form, so there must be some
sort of glitch which they'll straighten out in time.

What I can't understand is why you need the 8606. It has
nothing to do with premature distributions, unless you're
taking a distribution from a Roth, in which case you report
it on Form 8606.

You are still allowed to file on paper.

Default E FILING AND IRS FORM 8606

I am trying to e file 2005 1040 using hr block's tax cut. It
tells me that the IRS is temporarily not allowing e filing
nationwide of any return using a form 8606. I needed this
form to establish a basis in my roth IRA for reporting a
premature withdrawl. Does anybody know how long this will
last? Will I be able to e file eventually? Last year I e
filed a return containing form 8606 and there was no
problem. Thanks!
