| That monster energy bill had grants and credits for just about everybody- consumers, small business, big business, education, local government. Much of it hasnt made it to the IRS regulations or consumer tax software yet. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

The law applies for tax years 2006 & 2007, Several other> "energy = efficient windows" for your home. > I believe years ago there was such a credit! Is it still > available? energy savings improvements made to your home on or after 1/1/2006 might result in a credits to you. At IRS.GOV The details are in work-up now due to recently passed legislation, you can read some industry related information here, http://www.energytaxincentives.org/t...ome-shell.html If I & Mrs. taxhog had known more about this we would have put off ~our~ home renovation until this year, alas, we did it last fall 2005, in reaction to the high energy cost we anticipated heating our 60 year old cape. I'm feeling a bit slighted, that our substantial investment will yield zero tax credits, all because of poor timing. I think a angry letter to Sen Ted & Sen John is in order.

Not for 2005. That credit begins for expenses in 2006. Be> "energy = efficient windows" for your home. very careful what you do, as there seems to be specifics to the types of energy saving improvements that count. Also the actual tax credit will not be all that much. You can catch up on it here: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?...pr_tax_credits Just the highlights on windows: They must be exterior windows that meet 2000 IECC and amendments. The maximum credit is 10% of costs, not to exceed $200 total. So that means that your window costs up to $2000 apply toward the credit. Now, I'm often wrong, but $2k won't put new windows on the whole house. You'd be lucky if it was sufficient to cover one room. -- Paul Thomas, CPA paulthomascpapc[at]bellsouth.net << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| Moderator: This submission was found in my "Burn-Before-Read" folder which I now scan because of complaints that submissions are not reaching me. I suspect it was there because my filter scans for HTML garbage which is found in MIME submissions. I would tell you my opinion of HTML and MIME, but the moderator is averse to vulgarities and obscenities. As precedent means absolutely nothing to me, I suggegt all users refrain from HTML and MIME. Does anyone know of a "credit" that is offered for buying "energy = efficient windows" for your home. I believe years ago there was such a credit! Is it still available? Thank you, << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
