If you get an "authentication required" error you have not set up your copy of Agent correctly. You have chosen to use an SMTP server that requires authentication to send e-mail with Agent and it requires your username and password. -- Vic Roberts Replace xxx with vdr in e-mail address. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

I gather that the above would still apply to me? If so: when I "reply via e-mail" from Free Agent, I get an error, saying that "Dick Adams <rdadams[at]smart.net> is 'Not a valid e-mail address'" when I try to send it. When I reduce that to just radams[at]smart.net, I get an "authentication required" error. I'm not sure how I would send the required message with my regular e-mail (Eudora), since that doesn't let me mangle my 'from' address. (Apologies for being dense.) George Moderator: I remember when this stuff was simple. OK here is a solution that will be effective as of 8pm EST tonight. Post it to the newsgroup and use the subject "MTM - 2006". I will modify my filter to route it propeerly.

Just over a year ago Verizon started a new policy, over and above their infamous sender verification, whereby all email from foreign domains was refused. That means that in theory, the sender's ISP (not Verizon) should send the sender some type of bounce message. This was very annoying for some people, like my spouse who had their Verizon email on their web page (genealogy) as contact, so people could contact her, even people unknown to my wife. After a lot of noise Verizon relented a tiny little bit, and you (the intended recipient) can now initiate a request to have email addresses added to a white list. For more info consult the 0.verizon newsgroups, only accessible to verizon customer when on the verizon network. -- Best regards Han email address is invalid << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2005) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| Re: the problem with blocked mail. Dick, if it's any comfort to you, the internet seems to be rife with complaints about this. I personally am involved in a situation where my niece has every email she sends me "bounced" with a notation that email from her has been "blocked" by the addressee, or the addressee's server. Now, since she was both in my address book and on my "safe contact" list, I knew that should be hooey ... but research revealed that the only way to track this down, is to have _her_ initiate a request with her sysadmin to investigate. In the process, I posted a query in a "help" group, and that created a thread of several hundred replies -- most from others who were suffering similar problems. But the internet gurus who actually knew something, were unanimous that it must be pursued by the sender, through their ISP or system administrator. [The help group moderator was not too happy, either -- and cut off the thread.] The problem is related to the internet-wide scourge of spam, and both aol and Microsoft are undertaking major drives to reduce spam ... thus leading to the "blocking" issues. | I moderate from a UNIX Shell account and use a Procmail filter. The filter uses several traps which catch e-mail from various orgaizations and five filter files. One file is "Accept All" and another is "Burn before Read". Two people have informed me that their posts are not getting to me. Both are in my "Accept All" filter file. That mean the posts are not coming to me. While I believe this is the fault of their ISP, I am going to completely redo my "Accept All" filter file. If you previously responded to my "Plan for 2006", you need to do nothing. Otherwise send me an email with your normal posting "From" header and in the body include your name and your real e-mail address. If you are having problems posting, send me an e-mail at rdadams[at]smart.net and ask your ISP to check their routing of posts for moderated newsgroups - MTM in particular. I'd like this problem to go away very fast. Dick P.S.: I still delete nonsense without notification. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2005) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
