N/A. The IT-2 and IT-1099 forms are not required for
e-files returns. (What would you do with them?)

Ah yes. Thanks Mark - And NYS also is introducing mandatory
efiling rules for certain preparers (largely based on the
number of returns they handle, I believe) this year as well.
That's probably "part of the ticket". There's also a new form
for taxpayers to opt-out of efiling if using one of these
mandatory paid preparers that ordinarily would have had to
efile their clients return.

Gee - I thought this efile thing was supposed to make things
simpler? But what do I know, I'm only an amateur.

Michigan has been doing it this way for about 3-4 years. No
real problems but then again we also have mandated e-filing
for paid tax preparers here.

But no more complaining that e-file requires more data entry
than paper forms. They evened it up.

I can't quite believe this. We also have to fill in a new
NY-specific form, IT-1099-R.

Default Interesting handling of W2s for NY State this tax year

A new form for NYS requires you to fill in all the blanks
from a Federal W-2, and NOT to send the state copy in with
your return. I suppose this is to avoid having them have
to do the manual data entry? Each so-called IT-2 form has
spaces for about 4 W2 entries; one checks off whether or not
the form is for the 'taxpayer' or 'spouse'.

Any other state do it like this? A first for NY in t/y 2005.

The name of the new NY form is 'IT-2'.

More curious than anything else.
