Here are links to the lists of forms.

Forms supported by TurboTax Online
https://support1.turbotax.com/cgi-bi...hp?p_faqid=331

Personal (1040) Forms in TurboTax
https://support1.turbotax.com/cgi-bi...php?p_faqid=79

The first is for TurboTax Online, which is the Web version, and
the second is for the desktop versions that you install on your
computer. The two lists are identical.

According to the first document above, Essentials is only
for 1040EZ. TurboTax Online Basic and Premier both contain
the same forms. The difference is in the advice and
guidance.

All three desktop versions, Basic, Deluxe, and Premier, have
the same forms.

There is no box for Essentials. It's a Web-based product.

It's still there. I got Deluxe, and the list is under the
box's front cardboard flap. Maybe somebody out there has the
box for "Essential" for 2005 and can report. Otherwise,
there's always the nearest office supply store. ;-)

Essentials or Basic can complete a Schedule C, but Premier
will give you more help and "guidance." When you start
entering business income in Essentials, it will suggest that
you upgrade to Premier, and it gives the following
information.

"TurboTax Premier advantages:
- Depreciation Expert for Business helps calculate and
report depreciation of your assets - and automatically
determines the most advantageous depreciation method.
- Expense Expert for Business shows expenses you can deduct
for your home office, travel, advertising, insurance,
interest, office supplies, leased and owned vehicles - and
more!
- Extra Guidance for New Businesses helps you set up your
new business for easy, accurate tax reporting.
- Audit Alerts for Business flags deductions and tax
situations that may trigger an IRS audit."

You can try out any version for free. You do not have to pay
until you print or e-file your return.

What you are looking at is TurboTax Online, which you use on
the Web. None of the TurboTax Online versions let you access
the forms directly. Everything has to be done through the
interview. If you want to be able to work directly on the
forms you have to get one of the desktop versions of
TurboTax that you install on your computer.

A better place to ask questions about TurboTax is the
TurboTax User Forums at http://forums.turbotax.com.

I had similar questions when I was deciding which, if any,
TurboTax version to buy. I got answers to my questions
simply by going to the TT web site and "talking" with a TT
rep online. They were very helpful and straight-forward, I
think. They did not try to steer me to the higher-priced
TT.

In past years there was a list of forms for each version at
www.turbotax.com and also on the boxes. I dropped TurboTax
after tax year 2002 so I don't have current info.

Default Turotax Essential vs Basic vs Premiere

I was shopping for the tax software and have questions that
the web does not seems to answer.

The Basic version seems to have no other extra functionality
than better help, library access and tax savings tips.

That leaves Essential for $10 or Premiere for $40.

I need to file a super simple form C. My question is: Does
the Essential have all of the forms available even if I have
to fill them "solo" or has only the forms for the interview?

In year past all forms were available but TurboTax is
getting more loaded with catchy graphics and void of
substance every passing years. I wander if anyone had a
chance to play with it.

Thanks
Mauro
