Now it's all beginning to come together and make sense.

What he wants is a way to quantify his time filling out the
forms so he can take a deduction next year for "tax
preparation" fees (even though self prepared.)

And, as others have noted, actual dollar amounts of average
fees preparers charge. Even though vigorously opposed by
tax professionals of several organizations, IRS
commissioner Everson is adament (adamnment?) about
retaining these misleading figures.

And he, a (former?) CPA, too!

I think he is referring to the information near the last
page of the 1040 instructions which give the estimated time
for preparing returns based on some meaningless "average"
time some IRS know-it-all came up with.

The IRS is publishing estimated average costs to use a tax
preparer. This is in addition to the number of hours to
gather information, etc. See page 79 of the 1040, Schedule A
instructions for 2005.

I believe what the OP is asking is if there is a web site
that will allow him to calculate the fee for a return based
on the forms required. The web site would use the IRS
average cost of preparation. Seeing how short the chart is I
would recommend the OP just input the information into Excel
or just use the chart as is.

Let me try to guess what he is asking.

I believe that the IRS has estimated how much time it should
take to fill out each of the different forms. I believe the
OP is asking about an on-line calculator that allows an
individual to input the form numbers of the forms he must
fill out for a given tax return, and then calculate the time
required for that return. (But this is only my guess.)

I don't understand what you mean. Could you say that in
English?

I am looking for the on-line calculator that uses the IRS by
form study for estimating the cost to prepare a tax return.
Please advise.
