Congress regularly goes through these processes at the end
of the year. Most of the time, they're working on things
that expire at the end of the year, so they don't usually
change the current year tax forms. For example, the
educator deduction (max. $250) is supposed to expire after
this year, but could still be taken by someone when they
prepare their 2005 tax return.

By the way, there's no current discussion about mortgage
deduction elimination in Congress. This was a subject
brought up by the commissions appointed to study the tax
law. Those proposals have a long road to travel before any
of them get to law.

One never knows what the Fools on the Hill will do. In my
day the OK to print deadline for the next year's forms was
mid-Sept., but Congress certainly isn't bound by that.

Unfortunately IRS has lots of experience with last-minute
changes, and Congress does keep them in the loop. Even so,
at this date it's a fairly safe bet that if they change 2005
law this year there will be delays in getting forms and
computer programs ready.

Default When will final 2005 tax forms available?

I see that irs.gov is starting to post some tax forms for
2005. But I read in the news that congress is still hashing
out some of the tax laws. Ex. AMT relief, mortgage
deduction elimination, etc.. Could these debates still
affect the 2005 taxes, or are they talking about next year's
laws already?

Default Moderator: My plan for 2006

Many things are needed on misc.taxes.moderated.

We need an FAQ to which the response has been negligible.
I may just provide links to sections to the IRC.

I need a minor level of funding which if I ever got a
function website up, I would already have.

We need a "white list". But there is a problem with a white
list. I have gotten many emails for Ed Zollars that were not
from Ed, but rather from people I commonly refer to as plain
white trash (and that's when I am not angry). I have a
concept of a white list with minimal risk of intrusion by
the [at]$$%0|e$ who work at the funny farm (misc.taxes). I
miss misc.taxes because I rarely have the time to get there.
I miss Mike Transue because I do not not associate with liars
and he is so good at it that's it's comedy relief to me.

Back to the white list. Please reply to this e-mail without
copying any of the text. On the first line one enter your
name with your professional designations - what the hell,
list them all - I have six. On the second line, enter
your correct e-mail address. I will pick up your munged
email address fron the From header. I will eventually send
you a code that will match with your munged e-mail address
or your corret e-mail address. And what you send to mtm
will get posted upon arrival. This means newbies are the
only ones who will wait for posting.

Please note that I have a "Burn Before Read List" of
[at]$$%0|e$ who will never post here and anyone who steps
outside of what I think is professional conduct can join
that list. And please note: I am not bound by precedent.
I believe that is the "Prime Directive" here. If not,
it's been repeated enough you'd have to be illiterate
not to know it.

My replacement moderator is my son Joshua who is so god
damn intolerant that it shocks both Susan and me. He
wants to become moderator so he can fine people who waste
his time. (Seriously the kid is a mercenary). Pray I live
to 87. He is only bound by precedent if money comes to him.

For those people who may not be aware of how mtm became a
reality on December 31st of 1995, it was two people, the
late Hank Seivers who did all the admin work required to
create mtm and who is missed and a young woman named Franklin
Howell who worked for Digex, who had no idea of what I was
trying to do, but stuck with me until I understood what to
do. I wrote a letter to the President of Digex and it got
her promoted as she damn well deserved.

I was elected Moderator for life only because nobody was
dumb enough to run against me. Beware of my youngest
child, Joshua DeWitt Adams. He may bill you per characters
posted.
