There is no fee for making tax payments via EFTPS at
www.eftps.com

Yes, but there is a fee for that kind of payment.

Form 1040ES.

It's a toughie. Name, SSN, address, and the amount you are
sending.

Not at the www.irs.gov site, but at http://www.eftps.gov/

If you were doing it by mail you would use the estimated tax
form 1040-ES http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es_04.pdf
The vouchers are at the end of the worksheets, which you can
ignore if you know how much you want to pay. I'm assuming
that the online method has an online form.

Sorta. You have to establish an account at http://eftps.gov
and use that. You can't pay via www.irs.gov. For a
one-time thing, less hassle to just send in a check.

1040-ES.

Default Want to pay IRS now for interest income before the end of the FY

I would like to make a payment to the IRS now, for a tax
liability I will owe when I file my personal income tax for
2005 - in April 2006.

My payment is for interest received - recently - on a Morgan
Stanley investment recently sold after being held for 10
years.

I have only an estimate of the possible amount that will
actually be due by next April, but I would like to prepay
that amount at this time.

My questions:

1 -- Can I make my payment on-line via the IRS web site?
2 -- What tax form do I need to fill out and submit now
for paying my anticipated tax obligation at the end
of this fiscal year?

Thank you for any help you can give me.
Tom
