The Oklahoma Tax Commission, on the other hand, is excellent> then again you probably have never had the pleasure of > dealing with the Michigan Department of Treasury. to deal with. No POA needed, and they can fix your problem while you're on the phone. And if the local office can't fix it, they'll find you someone in OKC who can - and have that person call you back. Missouri Dept of Revenue has also been good to me in the past. | I have been dealing with the IRS for 43 years and there is only one or two that I would *not* have home for Sunday dinner. They are folks just like you and me. | Long story short-- I didnt pay taxes for over 12 years (I'm 31) I was also one of those people who claimed more on their W-4 to get more money in their check. The first year doing this (12 years ago) I ended up owing and couldnt pay. I let my fear of not being able to pay snowball into a 12 year fiasco that left me with so much fear that I was literally afraid to open my mailbox each day out of fear of what I owed etc etc. I never filed returns either. Well this year I faced my fear. I found a GREAT enrolled agent (retired IRS) and decided to file all my back taxes and agree to take whatever punishemnt they decided fit to levey against me. I was soooo scared of the IRS that I couldnt even say the phrase "I.R.S". We called the support center together and found the person we spoke to happy to have me "back in the system". They actually thanked me for filing. The better news was that they only had the last 5 years of assesments so that meant I only had to file the last 5 years. I have set up an installment agreement and expect to have the entire balance paid off in 12 months. Everyone I have spoke to along the way at the IRS have been very helpful and understanding! They totally worked with me and never made any threats against my bank account, property, etc. lesson for the day--- work with them and they will work with you. I have a 20 ton weight lifted off my shoulder and can go on living.
