You betcha! NC, like all states with a personal income tax,
will tax a nonresident on income they earn in the state. I
don't have access to the NC withholding rules, but it is
highly likely that your employer will be required to
withhold NC income tax from your pay. Hopefully, someone
familiar with NC employer withholding for nonresidents will
respond.

If you want to know about how much you will owe, you can
download the NC 2004 income tax returns and instructions and
perform a "what if" calculation.

Yes. Ask your employer whether it will withhold NC income
tax from your salary during that time. If not, it is likely
that NC will not penalize you for underpayment of estimated
taxes if you pay the tax with the return when you file it
next year, as long as you were not a NC taxpayer in the
prior year. You may want to make an estimated tax payment
anyway.

I can tell you for sure that North Carolina will want their
share of the taxes. Your employer should withhold per the
state's withholding tables.

You will have to file a return in NC as a non-resident.

Default Six weeks in NC

I live in TX. Next year I have to go to NC for 6 weeks to
work on a project for my Texas based company. Will I have
to pay NC state taxes for those 6 weeks?

Thanks
