| Only if the amended return is filed before the statutory deadline (including extensions) of the original return. IOW, if you are talking about a calendar-year C corporation that has a valid extension, you can file the amended return by 09/15/05. On or after 09/16/05 will be too late. For an individual, I would suspect you could do it by amending on or before (Monday) 10/17 if there is a valid extension. You could try for =A7301.9100 relief, but if I recall correctly, I believe the Service has said they will not consider relief for missed elections to forego the carryback. Peter C. I just heard the other day that it may be done if you amend> filed 2004 return but would like to now, can I amend the the > 2004 return and make the election? within six months of the due date of the already filed return. But don't ask for a cite. Maybe someone else can back me up here. OOps, is this for a corporate return filed 3/15/05? Better hurry.
