I'm a resident of NY and receiving some retirement income.
The only exclusion I now about is the $20,000 that kicks in
for distributions received after you turn 59 1/2. (See new
message about my error in reporting this.)

Default NYS exclusion for retirement plan distributions

I was told recently that there is a New York State income
tax exclusion on all retirement plan distributions taken
after age 65. The only exclusion I can find in the 2004 NYS
documentation (Pub. 36) refers to pension and annuity
exclusions after age 59 1/2 and is limited to $20,000 per
person. I can't find anything that refers to an exclusion
of any kind that kicks in at age 65. Anyone have any idea
what this person may have been referring to?
