| I have a GPS device that I use with my laptop while I am driving. This device logs the GPS coordinates to the hard drive while I drive. I also have a little program that summarizes each trip by calculating the miles and allowing me to specify whether the trip was business, commute, personal, etc. If business, the program forces me to specify a business purpose and a location. I am wondering if a simple report from this database logging the date, miles, type of trip, business purpose, and location would meet the IRS documentation requirements. I would think so since it has the same fields and level of detail that a handwritten log would have. Is anyone out there doing this, or know of someone who is? And if so, does anyone know if this approach has passed an audit? Thanks for any input. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2005) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
