Yes, if you use the gifted items for the rental activity (or any business) then deduct it's cost (or capitalize and depreciate it). You'll have to get the numbers (and proof) from him. -- Paul A. | I purchased a townhouse and rented it out a couple of months later. My father paid for some of the expenses with a check in his name (i.e. home inspection, property management, and exhaust fan repair). I never paid him back because he said, "not to worry about it." Am I able to deduct any of that under my tax return? How would I go about doing that? Thanks in advance -J << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2005) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
