Other Expenses for Research: Include with any other
reference material such as DVDs, CDs, video, etc.

Same place as I use for tax texts, etc, on page 2 under
"Other Deductions", with a caption "Dues/Publications".
Also use that category for seminar costs. Well, back when I
did file schedule c that is.

Reference materials with a useful life of one year or more
should probably be put on Line 13 as a Section 179 expense.
The other? That is what Line 27 is for.

I usually create a line under Section V Other Expenses
called Professional Books.

While technically these are depreciable assets, I would
probably put them under Supplies unless they were pretty
expensive.

When I operated as a Sole Proprietor I listed these in Part
V, Other Expenses, and reported the total on Line 27.

Default How to classify reference books, etc. for an author on Sched C

Under what Sched C expense category is the usual place where
writers/authors place reference works (like the Chicago
Manual of Style, or books on negotiating with publishers,
etc.) and trade and subject matter publications (such as
magazines, booKS60 purchased for research into the topics
being written about, etc.)?

I'm probably missing it, but there doesn't seem to be an
immediately obvious place to me to put it.

Thanks!
