Sorry. I don't lick envelopes going to the government but
use water from a nearby sink. I don't believe in giving
them a free DNA sample! ;-)

Therefore, I don't know how they taste and don't care either. :-(

As General Haig said, "Any noun can be verbed!"

Ah well, I never did get around to looking it up, so thanks.

See! I KNEW it wasn't a verb. Yet we hear it used as such
daily, as in "I'll fax it to you."

I'm many times reminded of Dragnet's Joe Friday who kept
remind his interogees: "Just the fax, M'am."

It is also a verb as in "I'll fax it to you."

Harlan, indeed it is the same thing:
Main Entry: fax
Pronunciation: 'faks
Function: noun
Etymology: by shortening & alteration
1 : FACSIMILE 2
2 : a device used to send or receive facsimile communications
3 : a facsimile communication

Amazing, simply amazing, how we went to discussing glue.

But I was thinking about the tasteless and sticky issue and
just realized that those Avery (tm) file folder labels which
are self adhesive, don't stick and last nearly as long these
days than their predecessors, you member, the kind you had
to lick? I've got some labels on file folders for my first
clients 31 years ago that have stuck as well as the clients
they represent.

I read the page, and it refers to "signing the return via
facsimili".

Now, I don't even use a fax machine in my office, but is
that the same thing? or not?

In my office we use glue sticks.
It is a little messy but the envelop always stick and
never tastes bad.

They are collecting DNA samples along with Tazpayer ID's.

If you're referring to quarterly employment tax returns, you
can start faxing them in if you prefer. No more bitter glue
after taste.

Could it be that the Department Of Homeland Security has
changed the glue to a terrorist poison-proof formulation?<gI have found using a sponge to be a more sanitary and
certainly less "distasteful" way to moisten envelopes and
labels.

We use our own envelopes which are self-stick. We send
everything via certified mail, return receipt requested.
Even the certified mail things are self stick. (We get them
in a full sheet that we send through a laser printer.) Like

laziness pays off now!"

In order to raise funds, California has sold their excess
supply of adhesive to the IRS.

I can't help you on this, because I don't "lick" stamps or
envelopes anymore. I either use a sponge or dampen my
fingertip with some salive, and apply it to the envelope.
No taste, and more sanitary.

Try it.

First, my taste buds are more attuned to tasting the
differences in various single malt Scotch whiskies rather
than IRS glue.

the only labels I routinely "taste", one a quarter, are
those for either Ogden or Dallas service centers, those
being where 941's are sent.

Default Envelope glue taste

Now that quarterly filings are due, I am noticing the glue
on the envelopes and labels that the IRS furnishes is
tasting different. It use to be terrible tasting and didn't
stick worth a darn. Now it tastes even worse, but it seems
to stick better.

Is this just me getting older, or have others noticed the change?
