A tax return would only be required if you actually have
income to report.

A nonresident alien is not taxed on bank interest from a US
bank account. There is no need to file a US tax return for
2005.

The rules for filing are the same for resident and
non-resident, with respect to the minimum income. If all
you have is interest on a very small bank balance, you would
not have enough income to require a return, even if you were
still a resident.

As long as you are not a Green Card holder in 2005 and have
little or no income from US sources, you have no requirement
to file a return.

Default Does a NON-Resident still have to complete a Tax return is they have a US bank account?

Hope someone can help me here-

I lived in the US for 5 years but returned to the UK 2 years
ago. I surrendered my Green Card in Nov 2004 so I had to
fill out a 2004 Federal Tax Return. I hoped to avoid filling
out a 2005 tax return next year but I still have a US bank
account ( there is less than $100 in it). I closed the bank
account in May 2005 but I am not sure whether I still have
to fill out a 2005 Non-Resident Tax Return. Does anyone know
what I should be doing?

Thanks for any time given.
