| It appears that I am with the majority in keeping my file copies by clien rather than yeart. However, I have another procedure that everyone tells me is wrong. My practice started as a 'kitchen table' operation. It was part time and I had no employees. Having never been a file clerk, I filed returns in a way that made sense to me. When putting a file copy in the manilla folder I place it with the left side of the page up. I had thought that I did this because the name and the type of return would be easier to see without actually taking the return out of the folder. About 20 years ago as my practice was growing I started hiring part time help. I have been told ever since that my system was backwards (i.e. the left side of the copy should be at the bottom of the folder - not the top). I was also told that I did it my way because I am left handed. BTW, I will not change 'my way'. I even made a sign that said: "There is a right way, a wrong way, and my way. - Here we do it MY WAY. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
