Then... nothing.. nitchevo.... nada. The difference in refund sought and what they sent was not 15% of any identifiable deduction or exemption (for her shiftless 40 year old brother). I just couldn't figure it out. So at her urging I got a POA and called. They had processed the return and issued a direct deposit to her account for the meaning 641$ back in late March, so case closed. Person on other end of line couldn't tell me what the alleged or imagined problem had been. I guess we'll never, never know. For one client, it meant that they disallowed his HSA deduction despite having an 8888 attached to his paper return (he could NOT e-file). The electronic notice via the IRS's web site was not helpful - and I had to call and get what his AGI was in the return transcription file to figure out it was the HSA. The paper notice that was supposed to come via U.S. mail to the taxpayer has yet to arrive despite this return being processed in February (presumed lost in the mail). << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| Could be the numbers for a direct deposit weren't correct and you'll get a check in the mail. Could be your name or your spouse's or one of your kids names and the Social Security number don't match. Could be you left out part of your income, part of your withholding............Eventually you'll get a letter identifying the problem unless you track it down by phone first. However, it does NOT mean an audit. | I went on IRS website to check the status of my refund processing. It says "we have identified a problem in processing your refund..." What should I do now? Does this mean that I am going to be audited? What could they mean that they have identified a problem and how are those normally resolved?
