Also, I think an "attitude adjustment" is in order. ChEar$, Harlan Moderator: Harlan, nothing posted goes away anymore. It's an ISP by ISP problem. As for an attitude adjustment, I just opened a bottle of Mead fit for a Monarch. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

You probably are eligible. Go to the web site for your state> restaurant that is closing at the end of this month. Would I > be eligible for unemployment benefits? I just wanted to find out > before spending three and a half hours at the unemployment > office to find out I'm not elegible. and search for unemployment. It will tell you what the eligibility rules are, or how to find out. You may even be able to apply online, without having to go to the unemployment office at all. The state web site is www.state.xx.us, where xx is the two-letter abbreviation for your state. Tax considerations: Unemployment benefits are taxable. You already have significant income this year, so you most likely will owe tax on your unemployment. Your state may offer the option to have tax withheld from your payments, or you should consider making estimated tax payments so you don't get hit with a big tax bill at the end of the year. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| General Unemployment question: I am a waiter at a restaurant that is closing at the end of this month. Would I be eligible for unemployment benefits? Is this considered the same as being "laid off"? I received unemployment 3 years ago after being layed off from General Motors. Life is such a shit sandwich sometimes. I just wanted to find out before spending three and a half hours at the unemployment office to find out I'm not elegible. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
