Not any more. The Secret Service is now a part of the
Department of Homeland Security.

As far as I know they are not involved in the home made
spirits actions. Bank fraud yes!

If I couldn't get someone to buy me a drink, I had to pay

Technically the Secret Service is a part of the Treasury
Department, so I suppose they might be revenuers, too.

You need to watch more old black and white movies and TV
shows. They didn't call them Revenuers for nuthing when
they came to break up the stills.

Yes there is something that will. Try reconciling the
liquor inventory for Officers and NCO club's at remote
duty stations. And finding out that the last four were
faked because that particular part of the inventory had
been under 15 feet of snow for the last four months.

Spend a week reconciling those forms and by Friday Happy
Hour you know exactly what you want to drink.

in fact a permit to manufacture up to 200 gals. per year of
alcohol is very easy to obtain from ATF. My dad, a CPA for
what else that's worth here, had one a few years back to
make "fuel grade" ethanol. Fuel grade must be 190 proof so
even though the permit was for alt. fuel r&d purposes, it
could result in some WL.

We never made anything, my dad just wanted to show how easy
the permits are to get and hold!

not the ones I know - "contract operatives" I always get a
laugh when they call them "contractors" in the news, like
these guys are builders or something and not what they are
in fact; mercenaries

The 200 gallon exemption is 100 gallons per adult in a
household of beer and of wine. The alcohol exemption is
not for drinkable alcohol. But I must agree that the
possiblility of drinkable alcohol is real.

And to set the record straight, I did not go to Auburn.

Except last year about this time to sit on a committee in an
advisory capacity for maybe three hours. (think tax)

Actually I didnt' know that was part of the IRC, but did
know that it was somewhere in the law.

That is patently untrue. My neighbor, two doors down, used
to work for the ATF before they did away with the office,
and transferred him to exam. He's one of the nicest guys
who works for the service.

You're watching that movie too much, Dick.

See Subtitle E, Chapter 51, Sections 5001 - 5691 for the IRC
rules on distilled spirits, wine and beer. If reading this
doesn't make you want to sample the products, nothing will.

I had a job interview with the ATF many years ago. They
asked me if I'd be willing to go into bars, pick up gay men
and then shut down the bars as dens of iniquity. I told
them I'd rather not, and didn't get the job.

Default White Lightening

Harlan, did you really write:
"Pray tell, where in the IRC is there any prohibition
against moonshine? None. Not even sure that the IRC
covers such taxes, BUT, one can make as much moonshine
as one wants to, as long as he pays the tax on it."

Harlan, you are too well-educated (presuming you didn't
go to Auburn) not to know the alcohol taxes are in the
IRC.

It's not just paying the taxes. He needs to have a permit
from the ATF who really are the nastiest bastards on the
planet. I suspect the requirement to work for the ATF is
to prove there have been no marriages in your family for
the last five generations. They hire hereditary bastards,
accidents don't count

You can negotiate with the IRS. You can get a plea
bargin with the FBI. You can even get mercy from the CIA.
The ATF's style of negotiating starts as soon as they have
a shoe on your throat.

Permit, permit, we don't need no stinking permit.
