Ah so! One of those guys. They came out of Liverpool if
memory serves, and hit the US when I was out of the country.
Never could stand them, or even listen to them.

Certainly more than one of those bug fans. But not sure who
this Alan Coe is either, and Bob Wills is before my time.

Willie however does have some tax relevance here in this
newsgroup, however.

For some reason I was a fan of all of the above.

Reminds me of a time in the early 80's when a local radio
station here in San Francisco switched from classical music
to country, thinking they could make more money that way.
They kept on the old DJ's for a while, I guess to see if
they could handle the change.

In the first week after the change, I heard one DJ say, "And
now a song from Waylan Jenkins."

Harlan, did they allow Beatles music to be played in your
neck of the woods? George Harrison was one of them.

I bet you've never seen those two great japanese thrillers
(serious here, they are great!) A Taxing Woman and A Taxing
Woman Returns (I bet pun not intended - it may not play out
that way in japanese?)

Ah, that's a cute little dittie; never heard it before.

Never heard of this fellow Harrison, either. Is he related
to Rex Harrison, the actor?

Well if you really want to know (and the moderator will
indulge) the short answer is that it comes from the Roman
calendar (which is sort of the grandfather of our current
calender). Romans counted down from one of three dates each
month to determine the specific day. Those points were the
Kalends (always the first of the month, and the origin of
the word calendar), the Ides (the 15th or the 13th depending
on how many days were originally in Roman months) and the
Nones (nine days before the Ides, meaning either the 5th or
the 7th, depending on when the Ides were). We count up from
the first; the Romans counted down from these three points.
And they peculiarly counted inclusively using both ends. So
if today is Monday, we would say that Wednesday is two days
away; the Romans would say three days away because they
include Monday. April 15 is by our reckoning 16 days before
the first of May, but in Roman terms it is 17 days before
the Kalends of May; similarly by our method, the Nones were
only 8 days before the Ides. Got it?

Actually the Ides of April were on the 13th (as they are in
most months). Only March, May, July, and October have the
Ides on the 15th. The Ides of March used to be tax day, but
now tax day is 17 days before the Kalends of May. It just
doesn't have the same ring to it!

Default Happy Ides of April

To all our prep's out there, one from George Harrison as to
why we do what we do!

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five percent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet
Taxman

'Cause I'm the taxman,
Yeah, I'm the taxman

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me
