You do not have to include the 1098. The IRS already has a
copy. Same with the 1099-int.

You do not attach any 1098s or receipts. You do keep them
for three years in case of an audit.

just schedule A.

no, keep them for your records.

assuming there was no Fed tax withheld, no

what they really mean of course is that they want anything
showing fed tax withheld attached to the return.

Just the Schedule A.

No, none of them.

No, unless it shows tax withheld.

They don't mean 1098s, 1099s that do not show tax withheld,
or receipts. But you should hold on to all these documents
for 3 years so you'll have them in the unlikely event that
you get audited.

No.

No. Just keep them with your copy of the return, as a part
of your tax records -- available if ever needed to prove the
accuracy of your return.

No, unless there was tax withheld. I have actually seen
this on a 1099-DIV. The amount withheld was $5, so that
gives you an idea of how picayune some people can be.

Typical bureaucratic CYA. Could mean anything, or could
mean nothing. But it can apply to whatever they want it to.

The fact is, you should attach a copy of all W-2s -- whether
tax is w/h or not -- 1099s only if tax is w/h, and all forms
which are required for proper completion of your return --
based on your tax situation.

The instructions with the 1040 tell you precisely which
forms to attach. For most taxpayers it's just the W-2's.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but don't send anything
with the return that isn't specifically required. If they
need something more, they'll ask for it.

Not unless the 1099-DIV you got shows federal
income tax withheld.

Default Should I Include 1098 With Return?

I am submitting a Schedule A for the first time.

I have itemized mortgage interest and real estate taxes. Do
I have to attach a my 1098 with the return, or just the
Schedule A with the appropriate amounts filled in?

I am also deducting the sales tax for an auto purchase and a
couple of charitable donations (total less than $500). Do I
have to attach all the receipts?

Also, I had about $92 in interest from a money-market
account. Do I have to attach the 1099?

The irs.gov website only says to attach copies of W2s,
appropriate forms, and "supporting documentation."

Thanks
