Speaking of which, consider nurses who need a chronometerin order to take pulse of patients. used to be, when my wife was a nurse in a Baltimore hospital, and even as a student at St Agnes (know where that is, Dick?), the cost of her watch one year was a deductible employee business expense (no 2% limit those days). So nowdays, the publications from IRS specifically say such a watch is NOT deductible. I wonder why. "of course." The chair would be a work related expense to be put on schedule a, in the section that is subject to a 2% of AGI floor. So whether or not the deduction would save taxes depends on one's individual sit'achon. | I work for a small company, less that 25 employees, as a software developer, this means that my day is spent sitting in front of a computer terminal for up to 6 hours at a time. a year ago i had major back surgery, unfortunately the surgery left me with onging problems related to sitting for long periods of time. I have found that I can deal with the situation by sitting in a chair that provides the necessary lower back and leg support. My employeer has indicated that if the office chair provided is uncomfortable that perhaps i should find another position or I could provide my own chair. My question is: If I buy a chair that permits me to sit for extended periods of time to do my job and remain employed, can I deduct the expense of the chair from my personal taxes?
