I'm the reverse, I rather see the poster's comments on the
article, ie: why is the information important, why should we
care, is the article full of crap, or whatever. Otherwise,
this group will simply turn into a list of links, like a
google search. <snooze

If you feel compelled to post the essence of the article
that is linked you can fee free to do it yourself. The
beauty of the internet is the interconnectedness of
information. I follow links all the time and have learned
many many things by this activity.

article then the poster's summary. There are copyright issues
associated with posting the whole article, or perhaps even parts.
Also, more text in the message just makes more work for the moderator.
For tax code questions a link would often take you to a larger
document that must be searched to find the answer, and also usually
requires professional interpretation. However, if the link takes the
reader _directly_ to a story on a Web site that does not charge for
access, that seems to be more efficient in bandwidth, time of the
moderator and even time of the reader.

registration, even if it is free. There are times when I decide that
my interest in an article is not worth the time required to register
at yet another newspaper Web site, but that is my decision at that
time and does not change my opinion that links to news articles are
more useful and efficient than summaries.

Fourthly. I suggest a dictionary search of "essence".

Fifthly. I give up.

Actually, the part of the suggestion I was seconding was
that the posting contain the essence of the text, rather
than merely a link. After all, the answer to most questions
on this board would otherwise be:

http://uscode.house.gov/search/criteria.php

No one forces you to register. I am at NY Times, and many
other sites. I think they have a right to ask for this for a
free service.

It will not happen again.

Bug Me Not is your friend, and if you use Firefox, you can
get an extension to just right-click and use it.

Or copy the URL and go to www.bugmenot.com . (Ironically, it
is recommended by the New York Times.)
