The grant date is the start of the offering period. It
should appear on the statement that you received when you
bought the stock. If not, you can call the stock plan
administrator and ask for that information.

For example, the offering period may start at the beginning
of a 3 month window. Stock is bought at the end of the 3
month period at a 15% discount on the lower price of the
start date or the end date. In this case the grant date is
the start of the offering period, regardless of the price
the stock was bought at. Sometimes, the lock-in window can
be longer, even though the purchase periods are shorter. In
that case, the grant date is the date of the start of the
offering period when you locked in.

If it's not already provided on your purchase statement, you
can usually get the stock price on the grant date by
checking historical price information for a stock on the
company's investor relations page.

Open TurboTax Help and enter "employee stock purchase plan"
in the search box and follow the directions. Answers your
questions.

Default ESPP and TurboTax

I'm hoping someone could shed some light on how exactly I
should enter som ESPP information in TurboTax. I sold 70
shares of stock for 793.10 dollars last year under my
;company's ESPP program at 15% discount.. Im a little
confused on the purchase information that TurboTax requires
you to enter for the ESPP sale.

For example in TurboTax it gives you a set of things to enter
Enter Purchase Information:
a) Stock Grant Date - I assume this Stock Grant Date is the
1st day you bought stock under the ESPP plan? If not then
what exactly is this?
b) Market Price on Grant Date - Is the price you purchased
the stock for on the Grant Date?

Hope someone can help me here! I would greatly appreciate
any advice on this.
