| I have a sort of non-related NJ-1040x question that I'm hoping someone here can understand and help me with.... I already filed my federal return and I've been trying to finish my state return, both with Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax won't let me finish my NJ return because it says I need an additional form, the NJ-1040x. Now I dont have anything to amend, since I havent made any mistakes in the past and I havent even finished this return (and Ive never done a NJ return before since I moved here last year). Then as I continue in trying to finish this return it takes me back to the 1040x saying I have an error in it, there's a line to explain the amendment that it wants me to fill out. again I dont want to make an amendment and I have no clue what it would be (how could i amend something I havent turned in-it tells me not to turn this form in till I turn the original in). can anyone help me figure this out? do I just ignore this form? Ive been trying to get around this for weeks, I would have had m y taxes done if it wasnt for Turbo Tax, Should I go and do the State taxes on the irs site and maybe this wont happen to me there? Any help is appreciated Thanks yahi << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| No. Your refund goes on line 19 (overpayment). Missy Doyle << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

No; Ln17 would be -0- (No payments with original), Complete> question... > If I prepared my 2004 taxes and made a mistake but already > filed the forms... > And I carried all the data over from the incorrect filing to > a 1040X form... > And I got a refund on the incorrect federal report > originally... > is it proper to put my refund amount as a negative number on > line #17 on the 1040X form that I have to file and send with > a check? > Joe in Northern, NJ Ln 19 - 21 for the corrected amount owed. Ln 19 is the amount of Overpayment (refund) on original filing. No. You put your original refund on line 19 as a positive> filed the forms... > And I carried all the data over from the incorrect filing to > a 1040X form... > And I got a refund on the incorrect federal report > originally... > is it proper to put my refund amount as a negative number on > line #17 on the 1040X form that I have to file and send with > a check? number and send a check. -- Phil Marti Clarksburg, MD << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| I hope I can write this clearly enough to actually ask the question... If I prepared my 2004 taxes and made a mistake but already filed the forms... And I carried all the data over from the incorrect filing to a 1040X form... And I got a refund on the incorrect federal report originally... is it proper to put my refund amount as a negative number on line #17 on the 1040X form that I have to file and send with a check?
