If Schedule D didn't change you technically don't need to file it, however, because certain entries from Schedule K-1 usually pass through to Schedule D in my opinion it would be a good idea to include it. I amend a return, I selectively print just the forms, schedules required. I venture to say most software will let you do that, using usual Windows conventions, such as right clicking the mouse for a pop up menu and then select "print this form", and then the number of copies to print. Try it. Just the modified forms -- at least according to the> today I received another K-1. So I went through TT doing an > amended return (1040X). Of course, if the (normal 25%) bracket calculations are involved, then Schedule D DOES need to be recalculated.... << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Does the IRS really require all > this, or just the modified forms? schedule or form only if the change can not easily be explained on page 2 of the 1040X. E.g., I don't send a new Schedule B just because some interest or dividends were overlooked on the first pass. I just note the change on page 2 of the 1040X where it asks for the explanation. I do include a changed Schedule D as it is easier to attach the changed schedule rather than provide all the data in the explanation. -- Alan http://taxtopics.net << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| I e-filed my 2004 tax return last week using TurboTax, and today I received another K-1. So I went through TT doing an amended return (1040X). When I tell it to print the new return for filing, it wants to print all the forms and schedules, not just the ones that have been modified (it's including Schedule D, even though I haven't changed any capital gains/losses). Does the IRS really require all this, or just the modified forms? -- Barry Margolin, barmar[at]alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
