Well maybe not. I'd like to think I'm on their "preferred"
list. (grin

Interesting, the system is backwards as ever.

And I stress the word "call", as on the telephone. I
wanted such a booklet for Georgia's 600S instructions and
forms, so I emailed and asked them to mail me a booklet.
What did I get? Via return email one humongous .pdf file.

And the form 611 wasn't even fillable.

Well then, I guess I shouldn't be getting a 1040 booklet
either, since I do efile every year. In this case I am
the TP, the ERO, and the ET, but not a paid preparer.
But they still send me a 1040 booklet. Shh, don't tell
them. I like the hard copy for my desk.

You can also call the IRS or your state tax authority and
ask them to mail you the publications if you don't want to
print a 100-page document on your own dime. I did that with
the instructions for a state instruction booklet I needed
and the 83-page booklet arrived three days later.

This is an educated guess, but I believe the IRS stopped
sending forms to anyone who used the IRS VITA, IRS TCE, AARP
Taxaide facilities to have their returns prepared at no
charge. In addition, I think they also stopped sending the
forms to anyone who filed online at no charge. The
assumption being that anyone who was having their return
prepared for free would continue in that mode and would not
have a need for forms.

The forms and tax booklets are available via download from
the IRS website or by calling 1-800-Tax-Form.

It is known, yes. And related to efiling to be sure.

Suggest you go to appropriate web sites and order one each
tax booklet.

Several things you can do, You can download any form or
instructions from the internet. The address is www.irs.gov

You are probably not getting the booklet because you used a
tax package (TurboTax) one year. If you use a tax pro to
fill out your taxes you will not receive one either. Once
you send in your return done by hand, you should be back on
the list, but who knows. At least you have the internet from
which to download.

You have never filed electronically or used a PAID preparer,
It would seem that your should still be on the paper forms &
booklets mailing list.

People who use a paid preparer, usually receive a post card
with the sticker showing their name, address an special
{Check Digit} used to validate the accuracy of the ssn
placed on the professionally prepared return.

People who EFILE, by professionals or self-filed, generally
receive nothing in the mail, with the exception of those
taxpayers who need to make estimated deposits, they still
receive the ES coupons.

Default Receiving IRS booklets?

For the past five years I have not received an IRS tax
booklet. I used to receive it every year before that. It
contained forms, instructions, and return envelopes. I have
continued to get the booklet from my state, just not the
federal one.

I called the IRS about this last year, and they said I would
be getting it, that I must have misplaced the previous
onees. But I am very careful in separating and organizing my
tax mail. I watched very closely, but still have not
received the booklet. I have not moved in 15 years. They
said I could not be off their mailing list and there is
nothing more they can do.

Asking friends, it seems that some are still getting their
booklets, while others do not think they are. I found that
booklet useful because I fillout my return by hand and mail
it. Without it, I have to get forms from a library, but they
do not have the envelopes or mailing address.

Coincidently, I tried turbo-tax one year, the year before I
stopped getting the booklet. I submitted the forms printed
by turbo-tax that year. Is this really a coincidence, or is
IRS trying to spare forms from computer filers?

Is this a known issue. Anyone else not getting forms? Any
correlation to e-filers, etc? Anything I can do?

Thanks,
Skeet
