You probably haven't felt so good about being wrong in
years. Tuition scholarships aren't taxable income. See
Publication 970

Default Full Tuition Scholarship

My son is a college freshman, and has received a full
tuition scholarship. I realize the value of this must be
reported as income, but should there not be a corresponding
deduction so that the net income effect (and therefore tax
liability) goes to zero? The scholarship is well above the
$4000 deduction for educational expenses that is often
mentioned here. I am using "Tax Cut" software and cannot
find the right places to enter the tuition expenses.

Thanks.
