Publication 587 does indeed spell it out; I just looked at
it today. And instead of using a form 8829. you use the
worksheet provided IN that publication, which of course as
you see, tells you where to put taxes and interest. the
worksheet is merely for use in determining IF there are
claimable expenses.

Just use a form 8829, but do NOT include line 14 in the line
32 total (since you report 100% of that elsewhere), and DO
NOT ATTACH it to your return. It's for your computation
only (that carries to Schedule A or form 2106).

The statute is IRC 280A.

Default Home Office on Schedule A

If there is a Home Office and it is for an employee, then
the Form 8829 is not used, but a schedule is completed.
Then the Real Estate Taxes and Mortgage Interest is broken
out and shown in full on Line 6 and Line 10 of Schedule A
where they would normally go. The balance goes to
Miscellaneous Expenses. Is this correct? Do you know
where I can see instructions explaining this procedure? I
looked in Pub 587 and did not see it spelled out.
