All others are taxable. NJ provides a pension exclusion for those age 62 or higher of up to $20,000 on a joint return, $15,000 single,HOH or QW and $10,000 for MFS. If you qualify for the military exemption, then Line 19a would be blank. If you qualify for the exclusion, then 19a should have the federal taxable amount and 19b would have the exclusion. -- Alan http://taxtopics.net << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| I'm 62 years old as of Feb 2004. My non-contributory pensions amounted to $23,807 and was reported on my Federal 1040 using TurboTax. When I transferred these numbers to New Jersey's 1040, (Using TurboTax for NJ), none of the amount appeared on line 19A, 19b and 28. Do I qualify for New Jersey Pension Exclusion? I've read the Line-by-Line instructions and all they did was confuse me more. Does anyone have a plain English answer to my question.
