Sounds more like the commission on the sale: 6%.

Perhaps the original poster is confusing a deed recording
tax or other transfer tax with a sales tax?

No deduction as the attorney fees are part of your selling
expenses that reduce the gross selling price to net
proceeds. Any real property taxes you had to pay would be
deductible. Any qualified mortgage interest you prepaid for
the first month should be included on your Form 1098 at the
end of the year.

There is no FL general sales tax on the buying and selling
of homes. You must be mistaken.

Right.

Correct.

Nothing else besides the real property tax

If the real estate sales tax is at the same rate as general
sales tax, yes.

Correct. Enjoy Florida (a few days each winter, we have the
distinction of having warmer weather than many parts of FL)

Default Moving Questions

Just retired and my wife and I moved from NJ to Florida.
Closing in NJ was in October and buying of new home in Fl
was in December.

I use my new Florida address on my federal return but is
there a "moving address form" to go with my tax return.

We lived in house since 1960 and sold home for $250000 so
from what I read we have a $500,000 credit so there is no
form to fill in there. Am I correct?

We got a Sellers Closing Statement and aside from taxes we
paid (I believe we can claim) would we be able to deduct
what we paid our attorney for the closing? Anything else?

On our Florida home I notice a Sales Tax of 6%. I assume I
can put that on Schedule A to go with 'new table' amount. Is
this correct?

TIA for considering my questions. Since the move is not part
of a job I assume our moving expenses are not covered.
Right?
