Do nothing, since return already filed.

I have noticed that vague sensation more often lately, too.
It seems to coincide with advancing age. But I vaguely recall
(from about 12 lines earlier in your question), the reference
to 1040X. -- Ah, that's it! Form 1040X. That's the answer to
what form you should use to amend your return. <smile

If all it did was change the SSN, file it with your copy
of the return. If IRS has trouble processing your return
because of the W-2 error, they'll be in touch.

In this case the primary reason for the corrected W-2 is to
make sure your Social Security earnings record is correct.

Default What to do with W-2C with corrected SSN?

What should be done with a W-2C with a corrected SSN,
received after filing the tax return?

According to the Notice to Employee in the online
facsimile W-2, we only need to send the W-2C to the
IRS (after already filing) if it changes the total
tax. The exact words are (emphasis added):

"If you have filed an income tax return for the year
shown, you __may__ have to file an amended return.
Compare amounts on this form with those reported on
your income tax return. If the corrected amounts
__change__ your US income tax, file Form 1040X ...."

Based on that, one might conclude that the late W-2C
does not have be sent to the IRS.

Nonetheless, if I want to send the late W-2C to the
IRS, how can I do that?

The Notice to Employee mentions only filing an amended
return. Of course, that is in the context that the
W-2C changes the total tax.

I vaguely recall that there is another form that we
can use to send documentation related to a filed
return after the fact.

If I am right, does anyone remember the form number?
