this should be a lesson to you, along with some of my
clients in fact. WAIT till you have all your tax
information before filing.

In your case IF you know you have everything now, there's
nothing to be gained by waiting. Bite the bullet.

I'd wait until the IRS hits your account in March, and then
file the amended return before April 15; there should be no
additional penalty.

The key issue here is to allow your first return time to
work its way through the system. If you file too soon, your
1040X will not have a return "registered" for amendment. So
allow enough time for your original return to clear. One
sure sign would be the withdrawal of funds from your
checking account. Once that happens on March 1, then you
can safely file the Amendment -- knowing your initial return
has been processed.

Default Amended return now or later?

Dear All:

I just yesterday received another 1099DIV. I should have
been aware that I needed to receive one more (compared with
last year's I didn't have it yet this year). Nevertheless,
I just filed my Fed taxes and told them to take the too big
chunk out of my checking account March 1 (there is already
penalty attached, ~$50).

I now owe another ~$160 according to Taxcut.
Since the 1099DIV will be reported to the IRS I will need to
file an amended return. Question is when. Should I wait
until after March 1 so my initial payment has been handled,
or should I do it sooner? Or should I wait until April 15?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
