How true.

My little tract house (1100 sq. ft., 3 br, 2 ba, 2-car
garage), in the "low rent" part of San Diego County south of
Interstate 8, cost $18,000 in 1964. Today, with a 440 sq.
ft addition and bathrooms remodeled 13 years ago, its value
isn't far south of $500,000.

Of course Prop 13 keeps my property taxes down. Just went
over $700 in the last couple of years. If I sold it,
though, the new owners would pay something in the
neighborhood of $5,000 a year for the same house. I can't
imagine who would want to buy it for that price, but
everything that goes on the market around here sells in a
heartbeat, often for more than the asking price.

$441,000 around metro Boston will only go so far. Maybe a
two bedroom condo. Trust me, that's chump change.

Out California way if you have a house worth $441,000, you
may well be living in a slum.

Some may not agree, but to me at least, the irony is that
anyone with a 441,000$ house should need any tax credit
whatsoever.

Although I HAVE heard that things cost more in Taxachusetts,
and other such places.

I think they called it the "Circuit Breaker" because 'Ground
Fault Interrupter" was too long.
