Okay, now I understand. What you were doing as an employee,
you probably are still doing from home, right?

If so, no matter what, IRS would still consider you an
employee and thus all income should have been on a W2, IF
for the very same employer.

If however the old employer ceased business and a new
employer, perhaps even a new form of organization of old
employer, took over, maybe you agreed to BE a subcontractor.
In this case you will file a schedule c AND se on that
1099-misc income. I would recommend obtaining services of a
local and competent tax pro at least this time round. Look
in Yellow Pages (tm) for an Enrolled Agent (EA). Yes, of
course this would be my recommendation! (grin

Thanks for writing. I was an employee from Jan-June. And
contract from July-Dec. I did not have business expenses. I
already had a computer and all my work is done
electronically (I did buy a monitor to do this, but I had
purchased it in 2003 I think, in anticipation of working
from home.)

Thanks!

1040 form. However, which half came first? This fact may
have a bearing on how we answer your question and the
amount of tax liability.

Hi, Daisy. You must use Form 1040. The W-2 gets reported
on Line 7 as wages (and taxes withheld, of course, go to
line 63).

The 1099MISC income is reported on Schedule C-EZ -- assuming
your expenses didn't exceed $5,000, which seems unlikely in
the situation you describe. You will also require a
Schedule SE, as directed on the C-EZ, in order to calculate
the self-employment tax due. This will also lead to an
entry of 1/2 that SE tax, as an adjustment to income on line
30 of the 1040.

Default Received W-2 AND 1099-Misc

Hello,
Last year I worked 1/2 the year as an employee for my
company, and the other half as a contract worker for the
same company. I received both a W-2 AND a 1099MISC.
Altogether I made only about $15,000, slightly more on the
W-2. Which form do I need to use to file taxes?

Thanks!
Daisy
