Well I don't know how far back you're referring to, but at
least in the last 10 years I can tell you that the only work
relation to taking the moving deduction was that you had to
BE working a certain amount of time. That by no means
implies what the motive for moving was. I could move to San
Diego tomorrow (and looking at the snow falling, not a bad
idea), and I can assure you that although I would be
working, the move is not work related.

Never did, and that includes my move from Baltimore in 1972
to here. Work related, yes, but that doesn't have to be
primary reason. Has to be at least "also" work related.

last I remember the reason for moving had to be work related

Situation
Presently employed in City A, at regional office.

Moving 300 miles away to City B to work for same firm.
Working from home.

Does uncle sam care why I am moving - voluntary vs
involuntary? I am moving for family reasons.
