My rule of thumb advice is to wait until you get the refund
check and then file the amendment.

Unless of course you owe them. (grin)

You could possibly take a Sec 179 deduction for the computer
and wipe out the $1000 income. Use Sched C and Form 4562.
Unless, of course, you already wrote off the computer!

You need to file a 1040X.

An amended return 1040X and schedule C will at a minimum are
required to fix the problems. 1099's are due to be mailed by
1/31.

Sure, it's called a 1040X form, for "amending" a filed
return. Wait a few weeks (but not past April 15, 2005)
before filing the 1040X. If the 1099-MISC you received has
the $1000 in Box 7, then you will have to file a Schedule C
and SE.

First off, the deadline to have forms W-2 and 1099, etc. in
the mail is January 31st. It is not late.

You will need to file a form 1040X. It is pretty simple and
you can download it from www.irs.gov

Form 1040X, and the associated forms and schedules, probably
Schedule C.

You can file trusty form 1040X to amend your tax return.

As an aside, the 1099 is not late. The deadline is 1/31.
You just filed early.

Default Late 1099

Early last spring I did about 40 hours worth of web design
work for a local school as to what I thought was volunteer
work. When I finished the work they were so impressed I was
given a $1,000 check which I used to buy a new computer.

I didn't think much about it and in early January I received
my W2 from my employer and being the good tax payer I am
filled my taxes right away. Today I received a 1099 on the
$1,000 the foundation gave me.

Is there an "addendum" form I can file to claim it? Thanks
for any advice and help you can provide.
