The contractor did the renovations, which seem to qualify as
building changes. This might qualify for the new 15 year
depreciation rules or else depreciate over 39 years.

If as part of office renovation you purchased items such as
office furniture, that can either be expensed if small, or
depreciated over 7 years.

It's called a cost segregation study, and you need to hire
someone skilled at it to perform one. Otherwise the costs
are capital and must be depreciated.

Default Deduction / tax treatment of office renovation

Can anyone outline some resources on deducting the costs of
an office renovation? Our company moved into a new space in
our commericial building. We had a contractor so some
substantial renovations, moving, painting, build rooms, etc.

Thanks
Ed
