I recently heard (not verified) that Ohio files as many MFS as all the other states put together. That's amazing if true. And while IRS processing centers such as Atlanta, Andover and Philadelpia each handle individual returns (1040's) from several states, IRS - Memphis handles just Ohio. And they stop doing that after June. Then Ohio 1040s go to Fresno! __ Art Kamlet ArtKamlet [at] AOL.com Columbus OH K2PZH << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Regardless of where you live, the only way to be sure of the better filing status is to run the numbers. As for your withholding, do the worksheets on the W-4, which you can get from your employer. As for your W-4, follow thru the worksheet and see what works for you. | I just got married; my H is a full-time student and has a few part-time jobs. Should I change my withholding status? Right now it's at 1. I don't know if it's better to file as married filing jointly, or married filing separately. Any thoughts on that? He will be in school full-time until June 2006, and I'm pretty much the sole support of the family.
